POLICE have issued an appeal for witnesses after a woman suffered "life-threatening injuries" after a crash near Basingstoke at the weekend.

As reported in the Gazette, a stretch of the A339, near Kingsclere, was closed on Saturday morning.

Officers say they were called at 10.32am after a crash involving a Vauxhall Astra and Ford Transit Connect van near the Star Inn pub, in Newbury Road.

A 21-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Astra, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

A police statement noted that driver of the van, a 66-year-old man, also suffered serious injuries.

Now Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses as officers investigate the exact circumstance surrounding the incident.

Officers are keen to speak with any witnesses, particularly anyone who has dash cam footage of the incident.
