THE Met Office has upgraded Sunday's weather warning with "very heavy rain, flooding and disruption" expected.

Storm Dennis is set to hit the UK this weekend, with yellow weather warnings put in place by the Met Office for both Saturday and Sunday.

But now that weather warning has been upgraded to amber for areas of North Hampshire.

The warning is in place from 12:15am on Sunday until 6pm.

During this time "heavy and prolonged rainfall" is anticipated, with the Met Office adding: "Spells of heavy and prolonged rainfall are anticipated to bring around 20-40 mm of rain quite widely, with 60-80 mm possible in a few locations.

"This rain is expected to fall across areas already wet from recent rainfall."

Residents have also been told to expect the following:

  • Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life
  • Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
  • Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • A good chance some communities cut off by flooded roads
  • Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses likely
