EMERGENCY services have confirmed that two people were ‘seriously’ hurt after a car overturned 'several times' on the A34 yesterday (Thursday).

The incident took place on the southbound carriageway, between Bullington Cross and Tufton, just before lunchtime.

Police were called to the scene at 11.28am, where they found a car had left the dual-carriageway and ended up in a field.

The driver and passenger were taken to hospital with what police describe as “serious injuries”.

South Central Ambulance Service were also in attendance and note that the car overturned 'several times' before ending up in a field by the carriageway.

A spokesperson for the service said: "We received multiple 999 calls around 11:25 today (Thursday) all reporting a car coming off the A34 near Whitchurch and overturning several times, ending up in a field by the carriageway.

"We sent two rapid response vehicles to the incident, as well as two ambulances.

"The male and female adults in the car had sustained serious injuries and following initial treatment at the scene, were taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton."
