While the spotlight is on Basingstoke Town Football Club, we must not forget that Planet Ice Basingstoke Arena at the Leisure Park is facing an equally uncertain future thanks to dithering at the council.
While it may be home to one of the country’s most successful ice-hockey teams the Bison, it has been treated like an embarrassing elderly family member at a get-together in recent months. Shoved to the bottom of the queue and ignored while occasionally being wheeled out for photo opportunities with vulture relatives, keen to appear they still care.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council must act quickly to protect the ice-skating rink as time is running out. No rink will mean the end of ice skating and ice hockey in the town.
