POLICE have confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm at a property on Blackberry Walk in Lychpit. 

One police car, one dog unit and two armed response units attended the property at 2.40pm yesterday after reports of a concern for welfare. 

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary told the Gazette: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and malicious communications. 

"He has been released with no further action."

Police cordoned off the surrounding area preventing many residents from getting into their properties until 5.20pm. 

At 4.45pm the man in question was seen leaving the property in handcuffs with officers before he was escorted to the police station. 

One resident told our reporter that they were shocked at the incident with police telling them that there were suspicions "that someone had a gun in the house." 

Another reader vacated to the safety of her local pub after rumours circulated the about the firearm in the home. 

Officers and the armed response units left the scene at 5.15pm, less than two hours after the incident was reported.
