The fire service have been drafted in to secure Festival Place's roof this afternoon as Storm Ciara has battered the country.
It is understood a roof panel from the top of the shopping centre's roof dangerously became free just before 1.30pm.
The bus station was forced to close temporarily while the fire service worked at making the roof safe.
A firefighter took to social media to warn shoppers and residents to be careful.
He wrote: "[It's] very windy out there, people. Take care. White watch from Basingstoke fire station are currently making some roof panels safe at Festival Place."
He added the fire service were 'very busy' this afternoon across the county.
Festival Place has been contacted for comment.
