Gazette readers have reacted to the news that the covenant protecting the Camrose Stadium still exists.

It is the latest twist in a a heated, ongoing debate between the ground's owner Rafi Razzak, Basingstoke Town Football Club and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

One reader said she believed the saga would make interesting viewing on the small screen. Gemma Simpkins wrote: "This is a Netflix doc waiting to happen."

Another, Janet Sochon commented: "I hope this is true and works, this is outrageous that they thought they could put houses on the site. Fingers crossed."

Many agreed with the sentiment, with Karl Stewart suggesting a protest on the football "to make sure we reclaim our football ground.

Some speculate that the new owner, Rafi Razzak, had the clause removed whrn he bought the land back in 2016.

Max Rafferty commented: "I think it's coming down regardless, it all bored down to how deep peoples pockets are."

Another reader, Chris Moss added: Rafi is no fool, but I can imagine that a few notes in the right palms could have influenced or 'swayed' decisions."

Others are in agreement that the football club should be torn down described as "an eyesore to the area."

Jack Bateman said: "Suddenly everyone cares about a crusty football ground that next to zero people use."
