One Basingstoke library is set to feature on television this evening.

ITV Meridian will be filming at Chineham library from 4pm to discuss potential library closures in the county.

This is just one of 10 libraries at risk of closure under the Hampshire County Council's plans to save £1.76 million by 2021.

As previously reported, residents and library users have united together to force a change of decision regarding the much loved community hubs.

The news outlet will be reporting from the library between 4pm and 6pm during their 'Big Read In' with the video going live at 6pm.

The closure risks more than 300 jobs as well as affecting many residents within South Ham and Chineham who reavily rely on the libraries.

One 10 year-old girl from Popley withdrew her 1,200th library book last week who uses the community facility weekly.

She said she felt "very sad" at the thought of the library's possible closure "because all the books I read I've got from the library, and I've got quite a big range."

A lifelong user of Chineham library, Sheena Grasasi, told the Gazette: "I would be devastated [if the libraries were to close] and other people would too. You loose the social thing for everyone."

She added: "It really is important for everyone, you are talking about education and about people on low incomes who might not be able to buy books.

"If you take this away, what is oing to happen to us?"
