A WOMAN from Dolywern is undertaking a sponsored bike ride for a Wrexham-based charity.

Lauren O'Neil was born with Cerebral Palsy, and has now lived at Leonard Cheshire, Dolywern for nine years.

Despite her disability, she enjoys going to meetings of Overton WI, and the Joyful Noise Gospel Choir who performed at Dolywern's Summer Fair in 2019.

Earlier in life she was the first wheelchair user to be considered and accepted as prefect at the Lord Silkin School in Telford.

It was while doing her physiotherapy using her arm power to propel an exercise bike she had the idea of a sponsored cycle ride.

Lauren aims to complete the equivalent of a cycle ride from John O'Groates to Lands End, and has also set a target to raise £400 for Nightingale House in Wrexham.

She chose Nightingale House Hospice at Wrexham in memory of one of the staff at Dolywern, Lorraine Edwards who helped Lauren continue to improve her Welsh speaking.

So far Lauren has completed 131 miles and hopes to complete the rest of the journey by March 31.

To donate to Lauren's fundraiser, visit Leonard Cheshire in Dolywern, Llangollen, LL20 7AF.

Cheques should be made payable to Nightingale House Hospice.
