A petition has been launched by parents to save a long-running nursery from closing down.

Busy Bees Nursery has been based at St Paul's Church on Arrowsmith Road, Chigwell, for the past 25 years.

A letter was published on behalf of manager Jill James and staff on Tuesday, January 21, confirming that the nursery will officially shut this summer.

The letter reads: "It is with much regret and sadness that I must inform you that St Paul’s Church Committee have decided to close Busy Bees at the end of the summer term.

“Your child’s place will be secure until then, we will continue as normal and hope you will continue to bring your children to Busy Bees until we close.

“Our last day will be Thursday, 16th July 2020.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support. We will miss all your lovely children and want to wish them well in their new schools and nurseries.”

The decision to close the nursery was made by the Parochial Church Council.

Since launching the petition, 373 people have signed to keep it open and for the church committee to reconsider their decision.

A statement urging people to show their support for Busy Bees says: “For us parents, it's become a wonderful community. And the children are so happy and content.

“So, for all the children who attend the nursery and of course the amazing, supportive, most wonderful staff members, let's get signing this petition to keep our lovely nursery open.”
