The Toy Library have been appointed to run the Langthorne Park Pavilion, as part of a “revival” planned for the area.

The educational charity for babies and children under five will begin running the building in summer, after redecoration work is completed.

Speaking at the Growth Scrutiny Committee meeting on Tuesday (January 21), Labour Cllr Sally Littlejohn said the building’s new lease of life was “expected to enliven the park”.

Senior officer Stewart Murray added that the park will “have the potential to be part of a massive regeneration area”.

Langthorne Park opened in the summer of 2000. The pavilion is used sporadically for events by the Friends of Langthorne Park.

Youth advisor Boris Kisame, who lives in the area, told the committee it has “gone downhill” because it has “not been touched in years”.

“It’s not got a lick of paint and just looks empty,” he said, “It could bring so much to residents, it’s wasted potential.”

The Toy Library is expected to “bring the pavilion back into full use” so it can regain its “rightful position as a central hub in the community”, according to the council’s website.

When contacted yesterday, a spokesperson for the council said they were unable to give any further information about the project.
