ONE PERSON has been taken to hospital in a "serious condition" after a crash on the M3 near Fleet Services this morning.

The vehicle left the carriageway between junctions 5 (A287/Hook) and 4a (A327/Fleet) at around 8.30am, with one lane being closed whilst police and ambulance responded to the incident.

The driver was taken to Frimley Park Hospital.

One ambulance, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance critical care car was sent to the scene.

The road has since re-opened and delays have eased.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were contacted by South East Coast Ambulance Service control room at 08:36 informing us of a single vehicle accident on the M3 northbound between junctions 5 and 4A, where the vehicle had left the carriageway.

"We sent an ambulance, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care car to the incident.

"Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, the driver was then taken in serious condition to Frimley Park Hospital, with the air ambulance team travelling with the patient."

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson added: "We were called just after 8.30am to a report of a single-vehicle collision on the M3 between junction 5 and 4a, near Hook.

"One person has suffered serious injuries and lane one has been closed."
