TWO men have been arrested after trying to attack a man in broaddaylight with a knife.

The incident happened yesterday (Saturday) just after 12.30pm in Lychpit.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called to an altercation at the Cromwell Inn in Great Binfields Road just after 12.30pm yesterday (January 11).

"The incident was contained and involved three men known to each other."

Officers arrested two men, a 45-year-old and 36-year-old, both on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. The 45-year-old man has been released with no further action, the 36-year-old man has been bailed.

The spokesman added: "Enquiries are ongoing."

The Gazette has contacted the Cromwell Inn for comment. A worker at the restaurant said he didn't know what happened.

A witness described the terrifying moment two men chased the victim with a knife.

"When I arrived at the car park and got out of my car, I heard lots of shouting," the witness said.

"Then a bloke was chasing another bloke through the car park. The bloke was shouting about he had stolen some headphones.

"Whilst the bloke was running I see the bloke behind rummaging in his back pocket and out pulled a knife.

"Holding it facing down behind his hand. I don’t even think the other man at this point knew he had a knife. They ran back through the car park.

"The man In his chef clothes come back through to Tesco and was pretty shaken up. Had little marks on his arms. He confirmed to me he had a knife and I was to shout for police." 

Police confirmed a man had a knife which was confiscated after he was arrested.
