The Ark Cancer Centre Charity is appealing to local residents to embrace the spirit of out with the old, in with the new in 2020 to help its £5million fundraising campaign reach another milestone.

Ark is urging local people to make a new year's resolution to recycle unwanted clothes and shoes in January in one of the charity's many Ark-branded recycling banks that are located in and around the Basingstoke area.

The charity will receive donation in exchange for recycled clothes.

In just over three years, £100,000 has been raised for the charity, which is helping to fund supportive services and care, complementary therapies, and an enhanced environment in a much-needed NHS cancer treatment centre to be built at Basingstoke hospital – and now the aim is to reach £125,000 by the end of 2020. Ark Cancer Centre Charity branding is displayed on recycling banks at more than 50 locations in the Hampshire area, most of them in and around Basingstoke and Deane. Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: "We are grateful to everyone who has recycled items in the charity's branded banks, and also to the many organisations which are hosting banks bearing our branding – it is a great show of support on both counts. "The partnership with BIU is delivering a real boost to the ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the charity, and has resulted in a welcome and regular income stream which will contribute towards the creation of the much-needed local cancer treatment centre.

"January is the month to make new resolutions and we hope many people will decide to have a big clear-out and recycle unwanted clothes and shoes in the banks that carry Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s branding.”
