As we move into a new decade, many of us are starting to plan our holidays for the summer, but is your calendar one of the millions showing the wrong date for the May 2020 bank holiday?

The date change was made to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, otherwise known as the allied ‘Victory in Europe’ day celebrating the end of WWII and the day the Germans surrendered its armed forced, on May 8, 1945.

This is the second time the May bank holiday has been rescheduled, the first being back in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of VE Day.

The May Day Bank Holiday should have taken place on the first Monday of the month as it usually does, which would have been May 4, but the government announced in June last year that the bank holiday has been moved to Friday, May 8 in 2020.

Despite the six months’ notice for the date changes, thousands of diaries across the UK still display the incorrect date sine a large proportion of calendars are printed well in advance of the festive period due to the advanced preparation needed in the calendar business.

So, if you need to revise your calendar, here’s this year’s bank holidays with the correct dates.
