BASINGSTOKE residents will need to register their cars if they want to continue using their local tip - or they will face a £5 charge per visit.
Hampshire County Council will soon be requiring residents from across the town and surrounding villages to supply their details as the scheme is set to come into effect in 2020.
Registration is free and available on their website. Those who don’t register could find themselves being charged £5.
The plans will see barriers installed at household waste recycling centres in the county will be installed along with an ANPR camera. The idea is to make it harder for people outside of Hampshire to use the area’s waste centres though some on social media described the move as ‘Big Brother-esque’.
Hampshire County Council has been contacted for comment. It is free to register online. Visit https://www.hants.gov.uk.
