TWO people have been taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, after a crash on the A34 last night (Thursday).

Six fire engines and six ambulances were reported at the scene last night, where a car had crashed into a tree on the southbound carriageway near Litchfield.

The driver was taken to hospital with “life-threatening injuries” while his passenger was also hurt.

Police closed off the road as the incident was dealt with.

Officers say that a white BMW 320D had “left the road and collided with a tree” just after 6.30pm last night.

The driver, a 46-year-old man from Eastleigh, was taken to Southampton General Hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in the collision.

His passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Winchester, was taken to Basingstoke Hospital after also suffering injuries.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses who might be able to provide information about the crash.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary read: “Officers investigating are keen to speak to anyone who saw the white BMW driving on the A34 yesterday evening or who witnessed the collision.

“Maybe you have a dashcam and captured footage of the vehicle?
