Kit Malthouse has been re-elected to serve North West Hampshire with a huge majority of 26,308.

The full results were as follows:

Kit Malthouse (Conservative) 36,591
Luigi Gregori (Liberal Democrat) 10,283
Liz Bell (Labour) 9,327
Lance Mitchell (Green Party) 2,717

Speaking after the results were announced at John Hanson school, Mr Malthouse thanked the organisers and fellow candidates. He praised the campaign which was ‘all about policy not personality’.

He said: "To achieve these type of numbers is really quite humbling, to do it three times in five years is amazing. I hope over the course of the next few years I can fulfil the faith they have put in me to help me deliver a really bright future for this part of the world."

Reflecting on the victory for the Conservative Party, he said: "Over the country we are seeing a historic evening. We are seeing a realignment in British politics which I think has taken people by surprise."

The results for North West Hampshire were announced moments after 4am.

My Malthouse garnered 120 more votes than in 2017, but was able to increase his majority by 3,629 after votes for Labour dipped by one third.

Meanwhile, Labour's loss was the Lib Dems' gain, as Mr Gregori posted 80 per cent more votes than his 2017 predecessor - enough to ensure his party is now the second most popular in the constituency.

Speaking after the results of the count were revealed, Mr Gregori said: “I’m deliriously happy we significantly increased our vote share and number of votes and have now emerged as the major challenger to the Conservatives in North West Hampshire.”

Mr Mitchell, of the Green Party, amassed 2,717 votes, falling just shy of the five per cent threshold required for candidates to recoup their deposits.

However the figure was more than twice that posted in 2017, given Mr Mitchell and his party cause for optimism.

He added: “I’m disappointed that we didn’t make the five per cent because, however I still do think we’ve had successes.

“We got the highest number of votes we have ever had in this constituency, so we have a launch platform to build on for the next five years.”
