THIS is the chilling moment a robber brandishing a crowbar crept through the home of an Andover family after smashing through a back window.

CCTV footage obtained by the Advertiser shows three brazen thieves walking calmly through the bottom of the two-bedroom property.

The trio went onto ram-sack the Winchester Road property on Friday night before they took off with a heavy-duty safe and sentimental jewellery.

The shocking incident is the latest in a series of worrying burglaries in the town.

Speaking to the Advertiser, homeowner Sophie Tarrant described feeling “unsafe” and says she “couldn’t sleep” after the incident.

The 40-year-old victim, whose jewellery was stolen, said that neither her nor her husband, Warren Tarrant, 56, were in the property when the incident occurred but that their CCTV footage captured them in the act.

Sophie said: “There was glass all over the kitchen from where they had smashed the window as well as gouging holes in the walls throughout the house as they dragged the fire duty safe from the master bedroom.”

She said that the burglars were clearly experienced, adding: “They knew what they were doing because they ripped the CCTV cameras and the wifi cables off the walls as soon as the alarms went off.”

She continued: “They took really sentimental jewellery that my mother had left for me after she died.”

This included a gold bracelet which was left for her in her mother’s will.

Andover police have appealed to anyone in the area at the time to come forward. In particular officers are looking for dashcam and CCTV footage from the area that might have picked up the culprits.

Reflecting on the impact the burglary has had on her, Sophie said: “You really don’t feel safe in your home, neither of us have slept well since [that evening]. I keep replaying that image of them in my head. You keep looking at people you pass in the street thinking ‘were you looking at our house?’”

This follows the outbreak of burglaries happening throughout the borough, including a planned six-minute attack in a family home on Chestnut Avenue last month, believed to be one of four burglaries to happen in the area.

Sophie added: “Let’s all be vigilant to help each other, they did it at 4.30pm in a busy road so it could happen to anyone. We had an alarm and CCTV but they still broke in so make sure to keep things out of plain sight.”

“Our neighbours reported the car the burglars left in, which appeared to be a stolen vehicle. They seem to be using stolen cars so watch out for suspicious vehicles, particularly if there is a driver sat outside waiting on the phone.”

“The response from the police has been amazing, by the time we got home the forensics had been [and assessed the scene]”
