I HAVEN’T voted in a General Election since 1993.

On December 1 a letter came through my letterbox from Maria Miller. The letter was written by The Rt Honourable Boris Johnson, Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party. It said if I voted for Maria Miller and the Conservative Party won the election, the country would get better hospitals, safer streets and improved schools. Nowhere in the letter did it mention climate change or global warming.

On December 2 the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said the global response to climate change to date had been “utterly inadequate” and that “the point of no return was no longer over the horizon. Action is needed now.”

Clearly, that thought is not in the mind of the Conservative Party or its leader or by default our MP Maria Miller. Couple that with the priority focus of the Labour Party on nationalisation and punitive taxation for the rich the only option I see viable for me to break a non-voting habit of 26 years is to vote Green.

What matters more: rampant capitalism, pseudo communism or global co-operation to prevent, or at least delay for as long as possible the end of the world as we know it?

What will the future hold for my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren if we don't take action to manage global warming now?

Thanks for your letter, Maria Miller. I shall be voting Green.
