TRAVELLERS have left a trail of destruction in their wake after moving on from a layby near Basingstoke.
It is believed an encampment had been set up on the A30 layby, between Dummer and North Waltham, on Tuesday, October 29.
Today (Sunday) it appears that the group has now moved on, but a trail of litter has been left behind – as well as a seemingly abandoned caravan that has been left smashed to pieces.
Witnesses had previously reported seeing people setting fire to caravans in the layby on Friday night, although police were unable to confirm this.
Others then reported seeing people “trashing” a caravan with “stones and sticks”, and the decimated caravan remains in the layby.
Hampshire Constabulary has been contacted for more information on the situation.
