AN EASTLEIGH youngster has been slammed for his "dangerous and stupid" cycling on a busy Hampshire road.
In a video sent to the Echo, a young male rider can be seen clinging to the back of a lorry while sat on his bike.
For around 50 yards he hitches a free ride down Leigh Road in Eastleigh during the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
John Carpenter a spokesperson for Eastleigh Cycling Group which is a "small group of local, friendly riders" in the area said the teen's actions are probably one of the most dangerous things he has seen done in a long time.
He added: "Holding onto a moving vehicle is very dangerous as you don't have full control of your bike and you cant see the condition of the road ahead (so many potholes about).
"You can see in the video that just before he lets go the bike wobbles slightly.
"The driver is unaware that you are there and should they brake or change direction quickly you could go under the vehicle. "He hasn't got a helmet which I believe is a must nowadays. I would not recommend doing this in any circumstances."
A spokesperson from Sotonia Cycling Club added that the boy's antics were a stupid thing to do.
While a police spokesperson added: "We would remind all road users to act responsibly to ensure the safety of all other road users.
"Actions like that shown in the footage is extremely dangerous and could prove fatal."
