A STRETCH of railway has been blocked after banks at the side of the track collapsed due to heavy rain.

The landslip occurred on the line between Fleet and Basingstoke.

As a result, South Western Railway (SWR) said that train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Due to the disruption trains will not call at Hook station in the Basingstoke bound direction, with replacement buses in operation between the two stations.

In a statement SWR said: “We have been informed of a landslip between Fleet and Basingstoke. This means that one of the lines towards Basingstoke is closed until further notice.

“Hook station will not be served in the Basingstoke-bound direction. Trains are able to pass through this area on the other Basingstoke-bound line although they may be delayed or changed at short notice.”

People looking to use the rail service are advised to check their journey before travelling.
