BASINGSTOKE residents are invited to join the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane to honour the fallen at this year’s Remembrance Sunday service.

Poppy wreaths will be laid at the town’s war memorial outside the council’s office following a two minutes’ silence at 11am on Sunday, November 10.

The mayor Cllr Diane Taylor will be joined by local dignitaries and representatives from the armed forces, police, fire service and local associations, schools and organisations.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.

An Armistice Day service will be held on Monday, November 11, at the war memorial at 11am.

Armistice Day is celebrated to commemorate the day that World War I allies signed an agreement with Germany to end the fighting.
