THIS is what the new Village Hotel will look like when it opens in Basing View in the new year.

The 153-bedroom project will also boast gym facilities, a Starbucks and a pub and grill - and are open to residents as well as people who stay at the hotel.

There will also be meeting facilities and work space for start-ups to hire out.

The business-class facility was controversial after Basingstoke Sports Centre thought that the developments would negatively impact the town centre site.

However, it was narrowly voted through last year and construction is now well underway, with the first parts opening in January.

At the time of application it was believed the project would bring 100 jobs and £20 million of investment to the borough.

Danielle Enderson, Director of Sales for Village Hotel Basingstoke, said: "I was over in the building on Monday this week and it’s quite exciting to do a hard hat tour and see it coming on and coming to fruition.

"Our bedrooms, the second and third floor, are pretty much nearly done in terms of the carpeting and wallpaper, it’s just the final fittings and features that need to be taking place there.

"It’s starting to really take shape, we’ve just put the signage up on the front of the building yesterday so the Village Hotel logo is now loud and proud at the top of the building for everybody to see."

Danielle said that the leisure club and Starbucks are planned to be opening on January 25, whilst the rest of the hotel will be launched on February 10.

"I think we completely underestimated all that was happening here on Basing View but there are so many new companies moving into the area and huge amounts of regeneration on the park itself," Danielle continued.

"We absolutely welcome everybody and we really want to engage with the local community so watch this space, we’ll be here after Christmas."
