A WOMAN is appealing for information after her partner was allegedly hit with a metal pole in Winklebury last night.

Sarah Bartlett says that she and her partner were involved in what she describes as an "attempted mugging and serious assault".

She was with her partner in the alley between Hawthorn Way and Fort Hill School at around 7.10pm, when she says she was approached by a group of teenage boys.

Sarah claims that they asked them to empty their pockets, but when they refused they say they were surrounded and her partner hit on the back of the head and legs by a metal pole.

"His head was split open with blood everywhere," she said on Facebook.

Sarah says that the boy who allegedly hit her partner was "wearing a white puffer type coat and was quite spotty", whilst another couple of people were on bikes and "another one with big hair, like brown curly/scruffy-ish".

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We are investigating an attempted robbery following a report made to us at 7.16pm on Wednesday 23 October.

"It was reported that a 42-year-old man was approached by a group of males near Kenilworth Road, Basingstoke, and was hit on the head with a metal pole.

"The man sustained a cut on his head and later attended Basingstoke hospital for treatment.

"Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 44190380379."
