DRIVERS are facing traffic chaos on two Hampshire motorways this morning due to "emergency repairs".

A section of the M27 is currently closed due to what Highways England are describing as "emergency infrastructure repairs".

Two lanes of the M3 are also currently closed, also due to the repairs.

Hampshire's road traffic network management system, ROMANSE, the delays were due to "overrunning roadworks" - though Highways England has denied this.

On the M27 westbound, drivers are facing 45-minute delays at junction five, for Eastleigh

The motorway is closed heading westbound towards the link-road for the M3 - though traffic is still able to continue west towards the New Forest.

Traffic bosses are warning of tailbacks to junction eight, for Bursledon.

Drivers are also being warned of long delays on the M3 at Eastleigh.

Two lanes are blocked southbound M3 near Eastleigh, between junction 13 for Eastleigh and junction 14 for the M27.

Highways England says it "does not know" when the roads will reopen.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "The M3 is currently closed from J13 to J14 southbound however, traffic is also not able to join the M3 northbound from the M27 J4 westbound or Chilworth Link, with delays of at least 30 minutes covering several miles of the motorway.

"The closure is due to an emergency roadworks operation and Highways England has resources deployed working hard to restore normal conditions as soon as possible."
