It was a successful night for Hook as they took home five awards from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Village of the Year Awards.

Held on Spetember 25 in Chandler's Ford, the ceremony celebrates the villages across the area and is organised by the Hampshire Association of Local Councils.

The town were winners in two categories, one for 'Excellence in Community Engagement' for their smartphone app, whilst Sue Hinton won the Most Inspirational Person award.

They were also runner-up in the Best Open Space category for Hook in Bloom whilst Hook Books won them Highly Commended for Best Community Initiative.

Cllr Jane Worlock said: "What a fantastic achievement by Hook, whose caring residents embody a true community spirit which makes our village such a friendly and happening place to live."

They also finished second in the coveted 'Overall Best Hampshire & Isle of Wight Village of the Year 2019' category, which was won by Bishops Waltham.

Anne Atkins, Executive Officer of Hook Parish Council added: "These awards recognise the dedication and selfless work of the many volunteers in Hook, who care so passionately about their village."
