EIGHT horses at a riding school have been diagnosed with a “highly infectious fungal infection”.
The horses at Wellington Riding, near Riseley, have been affected by Equine Ringworm, an infection that can spread between horses and also to humans.
However, according to the general manager, they have been isolated from other animals and a “small number” of the staff are looking after them.
David Sheerin, who confirmed the news to the Gazette, said, “A small number of horses have been affected.
“We have followed all the advice and procedures.”
The site has a total of 90 horses and is a venue for national competition as well as offering riding lessons.
The site is still open as usual.
“It is something that we are currently dealing with and all the other horses are in good health,” David continued.
“Because we are an open centre, at any point we are susceptible.”
