FIREFIGHTERS have been dealing with "a large number of vehicles on fire" after reports of an explosion in the Houndmills.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue has confirmed that firefighters are in attendance at an industrial premises in Aldermaston Road South dealing with "a large number of vehicles on fire".

The call came in at 8.46pm and three crews from Basingstoke, plus one from Alton, are at the scene with another water carrier said to be on the way.

Police are also in the area and have been seen setting up a cordon and blocking off roads. 

Eyewitnesses have reported via social media hearing two loud explosions before the fire broke out.

Another witness messaged the Gazette describing "lots of explosion and firefighters struggling to locate hydrants".
