THE ODEON cinema in Basingstoke has been evacuated due to flooding.

The cinema at the Leisure Park has temporarily closed after torrential rain caused flooding at the facility.

One cinema goer said that when customers were evacuated there were not informed as to why.

The South Ham resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Gazette: “We were just at the food counter about to pay for some food before our film when we were quickly ushered out.

“We weren’t given any explanation and the staff were actually quite rude.”

They added: “There were a lot of people waiting outside waiting to know what was going on and if we were allowed back in.

“After what seemed like half an hour, someone finally came out and said that the cinema would not be reopening.

“It’s frustrating as there was no communication and it has ruined the rest of our day now.”

A spokesman told the Gazette that the cinema will be closed while the issue is being sorted.

A spokesperson for Odeon said: "Odeon Basingstoke was closed for a short period today [September 24] as a safety precaution due to flooding on the site.

"Safety is our number one priority and we’d like to thank our guests for their patience and understanding.

"Whilst a small part of the cinema remains closed, we’re pleased to say that the Odeon Basingstoke reopened at 1.30pm with minor effects on film timings.”
