A MAN has been arrested after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit and run incident near Hook last night.

The 25-year old man from the Reading area is being held in police custody.

The incident took place at around 10.30pm on Tuesday night, at the junction of the B3349 Reading Road and Vicarage Road in Houndgreen.

The motorcyclist, who was in a collision with a silver vehicle, died as a result of his injuries.

Police confirmed the death of the 53-year-old man from Hook at around 1.30am.

A police spokesperson said: "We’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle make off from the area, to get in touch.

"The silver vehicle has been damaged as a result of the collision and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a damaged silver vehicle in the area."

A police car was on the scene on Wednesday morning, and debris was visible on the road.

Officers were knocking on doors and speaking to witnesses, with one telling the Gazette that she heard the screeching of brakes and the crash at around 10.30pm, but did not see the incident take place.

Another said the news was "awful".
