SCORES of excited shoppers turned out for the opening of Winklebury's Aldi this morning.
The new supermarket opened its doors at 8am - to the delight of queuing customers.
The first 30 people through the door were handed a free bag of fruit and vegetables.
Social media users described the scenes this morning as "total chaos".
One person likened it to "Black Friday", where crowds descend into excitable chaos over bargain buys.
But despite the initial rush, others reported things calming doing within two hours of opening.
The budget retailer has taken over the former Budgens store on Winklebury Way.
It is a part of the company's national plan to open a further 21 stores around the UK over the next year.
Aldi is currently the UK's fifth largest supermarket, with 830 shops nationwide.
