HOOK and Odiham Lions’ 13th Annual Duck Race was interrupted after a family of swans invaded the river.

The event, held on August 31 on the Whitewater River, was well underway when the swans decided to have a closer look at proceedings.

After eight exciting heats featuring hard racing and the lead changing several times, the eventual winner was Alison Cox from Readingcox.

A spokesperson for the Lions said: “Our thanks go to the local businesses who kindly sponsored all of our heats and the final race.

“As a result of the day, we will be able to give £1500 to The Lions Community Store based in Fleet.

“Our very grateful thanks, once again, go to Richard and Sally Sanders from the Crooked Billet who kindly allowed us to run the event in their garden and sponsored the grand final.”
