POLICE have released CCTV after a 7-year-old Saints fan was struck in the face by an object, believed to be a laughing gas canister, during Saturday's league game against Liverpool.
Officers say the object was thrown from the away end into the Northam End during the Premier League clash at St Mary's.
The canister struck the young Saints fan in the face, causing an injury.
Hampshire Police issued an appeal shortly after the match and said they were working with Saints to review CCTV in the ground during the match.
Now officers have released an image of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We know the pictures are not the best, but we want to speak to this man after an incident at Saints vs Liverpool on Saturday, August 17.
"An item was thrown from the away end into the Northam home section and hit a young Saints fan.
"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote the reference number 44190293624."
A Southampton FC spokesperson said: "The club is working closely with Hampshire Constabulary to investigate CCTV footage regarding an item thrown towards home supporters in the Northam Stand during Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
"The item has been retained by police and all additional information has been provided by the club to the police to assist with their enquiries.”
The incident happened during Saturday's Premier League game at St Mary's.
Champions League winners Liverpool won the game 2-1, after goals from Sadio Mane and striker Robert Firmino.
Saints striker Danny Ings halved the deficit on 81 minutes after a mistake from Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian.
