BRITONS are set to experience the hottest August Bank Holiday on record, according to forecasters.

The current record for the August bank holiday weekend is 28.5°C and in some parts of the UK the temperature is predicted to hit 27°C, causing some to believe it might even break the record.

Highs of up to 31C are expected in parts of the country. Basingstoke won't be too far behind, reaching highs of up to 28C with blue skies and sunshine forecast across the weekend.

The Met Office forecast showers dying out from tomorrow, with 26C by Friday and nudging 30C by Monday, with 31C predicted by The Weather Outlook.

The hottest August Bank Holiday Monday since the holiday day began in 1965 is 28.2C, on August 28, 2017, at Holbeach, Lincolnshire.

This blast of hotter air follows June and July roasts which saw 34C on June 29, at Northolt, north London, and the 38.7C hottest day since records began 178 years ago in 1841, on July 25, in Cambridge.

Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge said: “The August Bank Holiday record is 28.2C and that will easily be challenged. Above the high 20s is quite possible in the odd spot. The high 20s are forecast reasonably widely.

“There is also a low chance of beating the overall August Bank Holiday weekend record of 31.5C.
