A BASINGSTOKE town centre charity shop closed down on Saturday.

Shaw Trust, in Wote Street, was shut by the new CEO of the charity following a "strategic review".

The charity helps transform the lives of young people and adults across the UK and internationally, helping people gain an education, enter work, develop their career, improve their well-being or rebuild their lives.

Chris Luck took over as CEO of Shaw Trust in February and carried out a "strategic review of structure, management and performance".

As a result, the charity said it is "reorganising to maximise the benefits we can provide to those we support".

It added that the majority of changes will affect corporate roles and functions, however, it also evaluated the viability of extending leases on shops which were coming to and end, including the charity shop in Basingstoke.

Mr Luck said: "The goal is to ensure that we can maximise what we do for our beneficiaries on behalf of our commissioners, in a sustainable manner fit for the future."
