A BASINGSTOKE doctor has been charged with causing the death of a motorcyclist by careless driving.

Devoted father Andrew Mayer, 61, died after his motorbike crashed with a car at a crossroads near Stockbridge in June last year.

An inquest into his death was due to take place tomorrow but has been postponed following the news that Hampshire Police have charged a woman for his death.

Dr Sarah Holton, of Broadleaf Close, Basingstoke, was arrested for causing death by careless driving.

The 42-year-old will stand trial at Winchester Crown Court on November 18.

The incident, which occurred at around 1.40pm, involved a blue Hyundai and Mr Mayer’s motorbike.

The vehicles crashed at the crossroads with the B3420 and Newton Lane, near Stockbridge,

In a tribute to Mr Mayer, of Fairways, Andover, his family said: "He was a devoted father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

“His family and friends are left devastated by the sudden loss. No words can truly describe how deeply missed he will be.”
