RESIDENTS have been left with overflowing bins after Basingstoke council’s new contractor failed to collect their waste.
Mike Ashby, a 62-year-old radio repairman, said: “Our black bins have not been emptied for two weeks now. Hampton Court is sheltered housing, meaning many of the residents have mobility issues and can’t get to the tip.” Mr Ashby said he had contacted Basingstoke Council but hadn’t received a reply.
Cllr Hayley Eachus said: “The first few weeks of a major project like this is a period of huge adjustment for both our crews, who are learning new routes, and the 55,000 households who have seen a change to the date or the week their waste and recycling is collected.
"I would like to apologise to those who have been affected as we go through this adjustment period. Our contractor Serco is aware of all outstanding collections.”
