AN INDUSTRY renowned global professional body will be coming to Whitchurch for a “behind the scenes” look at the town’s award-winning Silk Mill.

The Royal Institute for British Architects (RIBA) has announced its Great British Buildings programme – a series of events in which the public are invited to experience the buildings the organisation has crowned the UK’s best.

The Silk Mill won a RIBA South Award earlier this year and will therefore be featured on the Great British Buildings programme, making it one of just two buildings in the south to be visited, along with the Lookout at Lepe Country Park, in the New Forest.

RIBA will visit the Whitchurch tourist spot later this year to host talks and tours and offer opportunities to meet the building’s architects as they reveal the stories behind their projects.

James Robinson, RIBA south regional director, said: “This year’s RIBA Awards showcases the brilliant examples of architecture that the region has to offer.

“We’re excited to give the public this rare chance to go behind the scenes and see first-hand what makes each award-winning building so special.”

The Great British Buildings visit to Whitchurch Silk Mill will take place on Wednesday, October 5, from 3pm to 5pm.
