Two of the borough’s parks have retained their position among the very best green spaces in the UK.

Eastrop Park has been awarded Green Flag status for the 20th year running by the scheme while War Memorial Park has received the same award for the 12th year in a row.

The Green Flag Awards are nationally recognised as a sign of quality, indicating that the parks have the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained, clean and safe, and have excellent facilities for visitors. They have been presented to the parks by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Eastrop Park has everything from a boating lake and children’s paddling pool to play areas and a tree trail. War Memorial Park, which is home to many festivals throughout the year including B LOVE, offers visitors a children’s play area and attractive historic parkland, a skate park, sports pitches and all weather tennis courts. It also boasts a woodland walk and an aviary.

Cabinet Member for Planning, Infrastructure and Natural Environment Cllr Mark Ruffell said: “We are delighted that two of the most popular parks in the borough continue to be recognised as among the best in the country, one of those for the past two decades.

“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and how important they are for wellbeing. These awards celebrate the dedication that goes into maintaining such a high standard. The flags are only achieved because of the hard work of our team at the council.”
