HOOK-based designer Rose McMonigall has scooped a prestigious RHS medal for her Galician-themed show garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.
'The Dream of the Indianos' show garden, designed by Rose for the Spanish Tourist Office and Turismo de Galicia, was awarded a silver medal.
It highlighted the history of 19th century emigrants who travelled abroad to make their fortune and then returned home to north-west Spain to build lavish mansions and gardens for themselves and their families.
Tens of thousands of visitors to the RHS event, the largest flower show in the world, enjoyed the garden which was also featured on BBC TV’s broadcast coverage of the show.
Rose lives at Dipley Mill near Hook and designed the gardens there which open regularly for the National Garden Scheme charity.
This is the fourth garden she has designed for the Hampton event.
Rose McMonigall said: “The reaction to the garden has been wonderful. Show visitors loved its flamboyance and the back story about the inspriational Indiano people."
The garden, called 'Dream of the Indianos' is the imagined front garden of a Galician mansion.
The garden itself features traditional Galician plants, including camellias and blue mophead hydrangeas.
