AN ANNUAL kickabout is set to add to an incredible fundraising total raised by a Baughurst family.

In 2015, the Loosen family set up the Hope4Harrison campaign to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, after their son Harrison was diagnosed with Becker muscular dystrophy.

Harrison was diagnosed in November 2015, and his family wanted to help raise money in a bid to aid research.

In the four years since launching the campaign, the family, who live in Wellington Crescent, has raised more than £60,000 for the charity.

One of the flagship events that the Loosen family host is the annual Hope4Harrison six-a-side football tournament.

Harrison’s father, Phil, told the Gazette: “It is an event that a lot of people now look forward to.

“I did the London Marathon earlier this year, which is quite a solitary thing, and when I was going around asking for donations I would get asked ‘are you doing the tournament again?’ which is really nice to hear.”

This is the fourth year of the tournament and this year will be contested by 10 teams at the home of Didcot Football Club.

Mr Loosen added: “Things have been a bit hectic this year in terms of the organisation, so it does feel a little stripped back.

“When we started, we did it as a bit of a family fun day as well as the tournament, but this year I wanted to really focus on the football.

“What is great about this event is that more people can get involved. Like with other fundraising events it can seem a little cold as you are asking for donations.

“However, with the tournament people can come down and show their support.”

Now aged seven, Harrison’s condition has shown no signs of significant deterioration.

Mr Loosen added: “He is doing well, there are times when his mobility is limiting, but he doesn’t let it effect him in his every day-to-day life.”

As well as the matches, there will also be a charity raffle on the day.

The six-a-side tournament will take place at Didcot Football Club on Sunday, July 21, and starts at 10.30am.
