A SUPER slimmer from Basingstoke has scooped the title of Kempshott’s Man of the Year after losing more than nine-and-a-half stone in a year.

Tim Mortlock has gone from weighing more than 22 stone to 12 stone 13 pounds, proving that Slimming World works for men as well as women.

Like many men, the 40-year-old thought that slimming clubs were aimed at women and assumed the focus would be on ‘diet’ food.

However, he gave it a try after deciding enough was enough.

After walking through the doors, he was pleasantly surprised to find that the support provided by the group was practical and encouraging.

He said: “Deep down I’ve always been unhappy with my weight ever since I was a teenager.

“For years I tried to lose weight by myself, as I didn’t want to ask for help. I often lost a bit, but it soon went back on, usually with some extra.”

The Kempshott resident added: “It was nerve-wracking walking through those doors for the first time, but I wasn’t the only man there and everyone was so supportive. Now I look forward to going to my Slimming World group.

“There is lots of banter and laughter and I get some really good ideas too, from new recipe suggestions to ideas to boost my activity levels.

“I also enjoying putting back into the group, sharing our recipes and tips with other who may be struggling.”

For his huge weight loss Tim was named as the Kempshott group’s Man of the Year.

He is now through to the finals of the national Slimming World Man of the Year 2019 competition, which will be held at Slimming World’s head office in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

Since starting at Slimming World Tim did a couch to 5k challenge as well as participating regularly in the Parkrun at the War Memorial Park and joined Hatch Warren Runners.
