A GARDEN designer has featured at a renowned nature event.
Alexandra Hollingsworth, based in Odiham, created a garden called Subterranean Sanctuary for the BBC Gardeners’ World Live event in Birmingham.
The green-fingered event took place at the NEC from June 13 to 16, and saw Alexandra, originally from Basingstoke, was awarded with a silver merit in the ‘Beautiful Borders’ award category.
On the theme of ‘Greening Grey Britain,’ Alexandra’s show garden sought to ‘reimagine small, dark and awkward spaces as a light-filled haven, reconnecting the owner with nature and providing a mindful, sensory and restorative retreat from the stress of city life.’
The garden itself is excavated to mimic the idea of looking down at the planting from street level.
Many of the elements that make up the show garden will be re-used and re-purposed after the show, to ensure that nothing will go to waste.
This was the second big show for Alexandra, following her silver medal success at Bloom in the Park in Dublin in 2016.
