Top of the class for Basingstoke apprentice

Myles Nagle, from Basingstoke, was named JTL’s National Electrical/Engineering Apprentice of the Year at a ceremony held on Thursday, 6 June at One Moorgate Place in London.

He was chosen from a cohort of more than 1,200 final year apprentices.

Myles received an engraved glass award and a toolkit from Edmundson Electrical valued in excess of £500.

Registered charity JTL – one of the largest work-based learning providers in England and Wales – runs its annual awards to celebrate the highest achieving young trainees in the building services engineering sector.

Candidates - all in the final year of their apprenticeships - are nominated from each of JTL’s seven regions across England and Wales based on their outstanding performances throughout the four years of their training with Myles previously notching the regional prize.

Myles, who served his apprenticeship with Lowe & Oliver in Southampton, said: “This is a huge moment for me and I’m really proud to have stood out in the eyes of the JTL judging panel.

“It’s a great reward for all the hard work I’ve done - winning an award sets you apart and I hope it will help me to continue to develop my career.

“I’m really excited by what I’ve achieved in a relatively short time.”

JTL training officer Nick Amy said: “Myles has given huge commitment to the completion of his apprenticeship.

“He attended all his EAL days set and then proceeded to drive his NVQ - arranging site visits and showing his competence on the job.

“He completed this twelve months early, proving his skills on site demonstrating a very good understanding of testing and fault finding."

Nick added: “He has shown a hunger to learn and advance his own career not normally seen with most apprentices.

“He completed his inspection and testing 2394/5 in his second year which is almost unheard of.

“He also attended night school and has completed plumbing Level 2, so he is already well on the way to becoming multi-skilled.”
