VOLUNTEERS who have served a hospice for up to a quarter of a century have been honoured.

As part of Volunteer’s Week last week, staff at St Michael’s Hospice wanted to say thank you to volunteers who have tirelessly served the charity.

On Thursday last week, 32 long-serving volunteers who have given their support in a variety of roles from between 10 and 25 years, were honoured at a special awards presentation at the hospice.

There are more than 762 volunteers who support the hospice, carrying out roles from receptionists to retail store workers, fundraisers and inpatient support.

By giving a total of 80,832 hours from April 2018 to March 2019, they were able to save the service an estimated £816,410.

Deputy voluntary services manager at St. Michael’s, Tracy Sandle, said: “Volunteers are a huge support in all areas of the Hospice, supporting, caring and giving their time freely to help others.

“This can be the hospice itself or in one of our retail shops or helping at a collection or fundraising event. Without our volunteers, our hospice would not be the wonderful place it is today.”
