A FEAST of Thai food and dance was on offer at War Memorial Park over the weekend.

The annual two-day Basingstoke Thai Food and Craft Festival made its return with a whole host of treats to taste and live performances to watch.

On the main stage, activities were opened with Buddhist monks blessing the event, followed by them visiting all of the Thai food stalls, accepting gifts from the stallholders and issuing blessings.

Once the blessing was made, there were martial arts demonstrations, dancing and several performances from the Lady Boys group.

Guests could even try their hand at the traditional combat form Muay Thai thanks to Hampshire Self Protection, as the Basingstoke martial arts and self defence club offered up sessions to those who wanted to learn new skills.

Event organisers the Magic of Thailand also held an “I’m British, Get Me Out of Here” competition which consisted of five rounds where participants had to eat fried frog, scorpion, and pig intestines, dress up as a ‘lady boy’ and ‘lady boy’ walk and finally drink blended fish eyes.

There was also a beer tent sponsored by Singha beer, bouncy castles, ice cream and a variety of other family-friendly attractions.

Visitors to the War Memorial Park also had the opportunity to enter into a prize draw where the top prize was a flight to Bangkok.
