A FAMILY is doing its bit to help a children's hospice which was there for them in the darkest of times.

Hatch Warren residents Jessica and Adam Roach lost their baby boy Hector when he was just hours old in October last year, born prematurely after he was diagnosed with Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy 18) while in the womb.

The family, including Hector's brother Hugo, received and continues to receive a huge amount of support from Naomi House children's hospice and now Hector's grandparents Chris and Tina have organised a fundraiser for the charity.

On July 6, Kempshott Village Hall will be the stage for the event, featuring live music and a raffle.

Chris said: "The amount of support Naomi House has given our family has been incredible - for Adam and Jess, but also for myself, Tina and Gill, Jess's mum, as grandparents.

“Hector was at Naomi House for two weeks after he died and that enabled us to spend such a long time with him. The staff there were just amazing.

"There is a strong sense of trying to make something good outside of something tragic and so we looked at how we can help to give something back to other families to go through what we have."

Chris's band Never Was, which features Jess Lidyard on drums who played in Tubeway Army - the band of Gary Numan who is Mr Lidyard's nephew - will be playing at the fundraiser.

The event starts at 7.30pm and every penny raised will go to the children's hospice.

Tickets are available on the door for £10, but attendees are instead urged to go to justgiving.com/fundraising/hectorbertie and donate £5 per ticket, commenting on the page with how many tickets they would like.

Already, more than £800 has been raised for the cause.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinks and food to the event where a Naomi House representative will also be present to talk about the charity's work.
