TWO Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) students are set for life after college after securing full-time positions with Basingstoke-based IT company GeoXphere.

Chris Mewse, managing director at GeoXphere, visited the college last month to tell Computing and IT students about the current career opportunities available within the organisation and inviting any interested students to apply.

After meeting Chris on the day, Sam Colbourne, 18, and Jack Towns, 19, were both successful in applying for positions as junior software developers and are due to start their new jobs in July, after completing their studies at BCoT.

Jack joined BCoT from Aldworth School in September 2016 to study a Level 2 BTEC in ICT before progressing to a Level 3 qualification in 2017 – the same year Sam joined BCoT and enrolled on the same course.

Anthony Bravo, principal of BCoT, said: “As a college, our mission is to drive economic growth and prosperity within Basingstoke and across the region.

“Our industry links and relationships with local businesses means our students leave us with the skills and experience employers need.

“97.2 per cent of our students progress to university, an apprenticeship or enter the world of work after completing their studies with us, and Sam and Jack are two fantastic examples of this.

“I would like to thank Chris from GeoXphere for coming into the college.

“I am confident Sam and Jack will have successful careers in the industry.”

As well as a Microsoft IT Academy and Cisco Networking Academy, BCoT’s Computing and IT department is home to a £20,000 refurbished IT lab, with courses covering a range of skills including software programming, hardware build, and cyber security.
